About the team

Aspect Builders is a crew of experienced tradesmen who have spent more than 25 years on architectural renovations, restorations and new builds around Nelson Tasman. Good craftsmanship and a personal service are what we stand for.

A home is a big investment, so we work to make the process as smooth as it can be.

Darren van Vugt

Director

Darren is a director with more than 20 years in building. He is a qualified builder and Licensed Building Practitioner, and he also holds a Diploma in Quantity Surveying and Construction Management, so he knows the tools and the numbers.

He began as an apprentice at Aspect Builders. Once qualified he moved to Wellington to study and to work for a large commercial contractor, where he sharpened his planning, cost control and site management.

Darren came home to Nelson in 2015 and went into partnership with Grant. These days he runs the business day to day and oversees every project from start to finish, keeping clients clearly informed along the way.

Away from work, Darren is out on Nelson's trails running and biking, or at home with his wife and two young children.

Grant Dahlenburg

Founding director

Grant founded Aspect Builders and has more than 40 years in the trade, much of it on architectural homes and light commercial work.

Trained in both joinery and carpentry, Grant has an eye for the small details and a liking for complicated, interesting jobs. He works closely with clients and keeps the conversation honest and clear.

Problem solving, straight talk and hard work are what he is proud of.

Outside work Grant is raising two daughters, and he travels the country cheering on his youngest in her national and international motocross career. Now and then he gets out on his adventure bike with good mates.

How a job runs

Talk it through: Tell us what you have in mind. The earlier we are involved, the more we can help with the design, the budget and the order of work.
Plan and cost it: We work through the scope, the budget and the programme with you, and with your architect if you have one.
Build: We manage the site, the trades and the timeline, and keep you updated as the job moves.
Hand over: We aim to finish on time and on budget, and walk you through the finished work.
